Pallet capacity: containers and trailers
Enter the equipment, pallet type and weight per pallet; see how many units you need and whether floor space or weight is the limit.
How is it calculated?
Pallets per unit = floor positions on one tier × tiers; if a weight per pallet is given it is capped so the payload is not exceeded.
Units needed = pallets ÷ pallets per unit (rounded up).
Assumptions
- Floor positions are typical: 20' 11 EUR/10 UK, 40' and 40' HC 24 EUR/21 UK, 13.6 m trailer 33 EUR/26 UK.
- Payloads are typical (20' 28,000 kg, 40' 26,600 kg, 40' HC 26,500 kg, trailer 24,000 kg); the container's CSC plate and local axle and gross weight rules apply.
Frequently asked questions
How many pallets fit in a 40 ft container?
Typically 23–24 EUR or 20–21 UK pallets on one tier, depending on the loading pattern.
What is the difference between a 40' high cube and a 40'?
The floor is the same; a high cube is about 30 cm taller. Floor positions do not change; you gain volume for tall loads or stacking.
