Dock scheduling

Dock Scheduling Software: What It Is and How It Works

Dock scheduling software lets carriers book a time slot at a specific dock door instead of arriving and waiting. Done well, it turns a gate queue into a timetable everyone can see.

The problem it solves

Without appointments, trucks arrive when they can. Several land in the same hour, drivers wait in the yard, forklift crews are idle at 8am and swamped at 10am, and nobody can say whether a delay is the carrier's fault or the warehouse's. Phone calls and spreadsheets move the problem around but do not remove it.

What a good system has to do

  • Offer only slots that really fit: dock direction (inbound, outbound or mixed), cold chain, dangerous goods (ADR) and dock maintenance status.
  • Respect capacity, working hours and closures.
  • Prevent double booking, even when two dispatchers click at the same second.
  • Keep the planned time unchanged and record the estimated and actual times separately, so performance can be measured honestly.
  • Let carriers book for themselves, with approval rules where the warehouse wants them.

How Log216 does it

Each dock gets slot templates by weekday and duration, and Log216 generates the slots ahead of time. A carrier sees only the warehouses it is linked to, chooses the operation (load, unload or both) and is offered only compatible docks. The booking is created under a database lock, so a slot can never be oversold.

The driver receives a secure, time-limited link with the time, the dock, directions and a QR code. There is no app and no login, and the page is available in Turkish, English, Romanian, Bulgarian and Polish.

What changes in day-to-day operations

  • The gate becomes predictable: staff know what arrives in the next hour.
  • Forklift and crew capacity can be planned against real arrivals instead of guesses.
  • Every booking keeps planned, estimated and actual times, which makes before-and-after comparisons possible.

Frequently asked questions

Do carriers need an account?

Yes, a carrier company registers once and then books at every warehouse it is linked to. Drivers need no account.

Can a warehouse approve bookings first?

Yes. Approval can be required per carrier link, so trusted carriers book instantly and new ones wait for a yes.
