AI in Logistics Operations: Why the Operator Should Still Decide

AI is useful in logistics when it reads the situation faster than a person can and explains its choice. It becomes a risk when it changes bookings and nobody knows why.

A split that works

The reliable pattern is to let code do what must be exact and let AI do what needs judgement. Code decides what is allowed: dock fit, capacity, legal rest for staff, certificates. AI chooses among the allowed options and says why. A person approves.

What Logi does

  • Suggests a new time and dock, or a swap, for a truck that will miss its slot.
  • Chooses the dock for a waiting truck and keeps scarce cold-chain or dangerous-goods docks free when trucks that need them are due.
  • Suggests which idle forklift driver to send to a dock, or whom to call in for a shift, within working-time rules.
  • Chooses a stop order for a multi-stop journey among time, distance and balanced plans.
  • Explains an exception, suggests a root cause, and summarises the week or the control tower from the figures on screen.

What Logi does not do

  • It never changes a booking by itself.
  • It does not receive plates, company names, driver names or phone numbers; options are anonymised before they are sent.
  • It is not allowed to pick something outside the list the rules produced; such a choice is discarded.
  • When it is unavailable, rule-based behaviour takes over and the screen does not label the result as AI.

Why this matters

Operators remain accountable for the yard. A suggestion with a reason can be accepted or rejected in seconds; a silent change cannot be audited. Every approval and every rejection is recorded.

Frequently asked questions

Does Logi learn from our data?

The arrival and handling-time estimates are statistical models trained on your own history. The assistant itself reasons over the options it is given and does not train on your data.

Is it always on?

Logi needs an AI service connection to be configured. Without it, Log216 keeps working with rules only.
